THE SEARCH FOR THE PERFECT CAT LITTER
Bracenet founders Madeleine & Ben and their friend Tobi share more than just a long collaboration in a Hamburg advertising agency. They also have common interests when it comes to pets. Living with cats inevitably means dealing with how badly a litter box can smell, how annoying litter between the toes is, and how often an open bag of litter can actually tip over… The gloomy realization during a coffee together: a cat litter that prevents odors and doesn’t get scattered around the house after every trip to the litter box does not exist.

CAT LITTER - BUT PLEASE, MAKE IT HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE
Many conventional cat litters are based on bentonite. Scratching in the litter box can create harmful fine dust. For the health of our cats, we needed an ecological and as sustainable as possible alternative – thus, the idea for TATZENSTREU was born at the end of 2020.
What followed: several years of intensive research, consultations with veterinarians and industry professionals, and finally product testing. Then came the brand registration and the founding of Pawzero GmbH.

THE ONLY CAT LITTER WITH BIOHUMAT
Thanks to the BiOhumat formula developed by Uwe Wilms, TATZENSTREU ensures that the litter box no longer stinks. BiOhumat is a natural soil and plant aid. It is used in ecological agriculture to make the soil more fertile and to promote plant growth. When BiOhumat is used, manure and fermentation residues lose their odor due to the action of microorganisms. We are using this innovative formula for the first time for odor control in TATZENSTREU and have exclusive rights to BiOhumat for pet litter.
WHY SPIRULINA ALGAE IN CAT LITTER?
Instead of conventional bentonite, which releases harmful fine particles when cats scratch the litter box, TATZENSTREU contributes to your cat’s health with every use. We add spirulina algae to the litter, traces of which your cat ingests while cleaning its paws. These micronutrients have antibacterial properties and promote digestive health. In addition to boosting the immune system, this also benefits algae production on 29 German farms: we source our spirulina from the Deutsche Algen Genossenschaft (DAG), whose chairman, Ulrich Averberg, supports farmers in preserving former dairy farms by transitioning to algae cultivation. Our spirulina is high quality and free of microplastics—unlike marine-derived algae, which are contaminated by ocean plastic pollution.
WOOD PELLETS FROM SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION
The special pellet shape of TATZENSTREU prevents tracking and ensures cleanliness around the litter box. The pellets are sustainably pressed from sawmill residues and enriched with spirulina algae. Produced by Daniel Kordic and his company Eksid in Croatia, they are made from FSC-certified cultivated fir wood. The fir wood is chemical-free, has antibacterial properties, and emits a pleasant smell—unlike conventional cat litter.
Sustainably and practically packaged in recycled cardboard, we deliver our TATZENSTREU pellets conveniently to your home.
