Black Friday? Wir feiern Circular Monday!

Black Friday? We celebrate Circular Monday!

Every year on Black Friday, shops lure you with discounts to encourage you to buy. Yet we see the effects of mass consumption in the news almost every day: the consequences of the climate catastrophe, the exploitation of workers, the flood of plastic in our oceans. Circular Monday counteracts this - and focuses on renting, repairing and upcycling. Find out more!

Bracenet Circular Week

Every year, shops around the world offer Black Friday discounts to encourage people to buy. Yet we see the effects of mass consumption in the news almost every day: the consequences of the climate catastrophe, the exploitation of workers, the Plastic flood in our oceans . This type of consumption is not compatible with sustainability. Circular Monday is trying to change that.

BRACENET sees itself as part of a circular economy. We bring ghost nets with Healthy Seas and Ghost Diving from the seas, upcycle They create new products using fair and local handcraft in Hamburg and regularly donate our proceeds to our partner organizations - over €200,000 to date. In this way, our work provides social and ecological added value for the world.

In the spirit of the circular economy, we are celebrating Circular Monday instead of Black Friday! We want to encourage you to make your purchasing decisions consciously and first consider: Can I upcycle, repair or borrow something instead? And if not: Which brand can I use to make a positive impact for the future of our world?

What is Circular Monday anyway?

We are convinced that we need to transform our economic system for the future of our planet. We need a system that reuses resources to reduce the burden on nature: like the circular economy! Circular Monday helps to advance this goal. It takes place every year on the Monday before Black Friday and spreads a central message: “consumer circular”. Learn more about the origin of this day here.

This means: Before you look for the biggest discounts on Black Friday, take a look around your home and surrounding area on Circular Monday. What can you repair or upcycle, what can you use for other purposes or pass on? What's on your shopping list? Can you buy it second-hand or borrow it from family or friends?

Circular Monday stands for conscious and sustainable consumption. It's not about not buying anything, but about making considered purchasing decisions when they are really necessary. Of course, you can also take advantage of discounts - and it's best to buy from brands that are themselves part of the circular economy and fight every day to save our environment.

It is important to remember one thing: Let's not judge anyone for looking for discounts on Black Friday! Because often it's just about price and being able to afford something - and not about people not caring about the environment. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the industry to switch to a circular economy.

What exactly is the circular economy?

Like Circular Monday, the circular economy is about using resources for as long as possible and returning them to the product cycle again and again. If a product breaks or is no longer needed, the individual components are recycled and used for new products. Raw materials do not end up in the trash, but remain in use forever.

We currently live largely in a linear economy - or "throw-away society". New resources are usually extracted and processed for new products. And when a product breaks, it is disposed of in a landfill or thermally recycled. This means that the raw materials are ultimately used up without having any further use later.

To protect our planet, we need to reuse resources and move towards a circular economy. We are leading by example - and by upcycling recovered ghost nets and end-of-life fishing nets into new products, we are saving marine animals and ecosystems at the same time.

By the way: If your Bracenet breaks, we will of course repair it for you - in the spirit of Circular Monday and the circular economy. It doesn't matter when you bought it, because it should last a lifetime. And if we can't repair it, we will melt it down together with our net offcuts so that the material can be used for new products.
