Sustainable upcycling with local and fair production, has belonged to our main mission at Bracenet since the start. Now, we have roped together a collaboration with Hamburg label Bridge&Tunnel, who share these same values.
Upcycling. Where we have old fishing nets, Bridge&Tunnel have used jeans. Unique Blousons, pillow cases, or accessories such as travel bags or backpacks are made from old jeans, that would otherwise end up in the trash. The denim-label receives the often, already torn jeans either from individuals, or from organisations like Kleiderkammer Wilhelmsburg or Hanseatic Help. Any production surplus (pre-consumer waste) from other companies, that is created by imperfections in the cut or design, is also given a second life thanks to this label. Social. Bridge&Tunnel stands for design that changes society. In the heart of Hamburg, socially disadvantaged people as well as refugees who only recently came to Germany are upgrading their jeans by hand. Beyond qualifications and diplomas, bridges are built and perspectives created. Here the engagement extends well beyond the safety net of a job position. Help with private dealings with authorities, translations, accommodation or legal questions are all part of the everyday work of the founders Charlotte Erhorn and Constanze Klotz.
Handmade. Like at Bracenet, there are no machines behind the products of the denim-label, but people, that lovingly handcraft each unique product. Fast Fashion belongs to yesterday, Slow and Fair Fashion is the future!
As we got to know (and love) Bridge&Tunnel, it was instantly clear, we would work together! We visited each other at our workshops and returned laden with ideas. We’re super excited, to now bring one of these to life. An upcycling bumbag with a ghost net zipper. Have a look here!

We upcycle old fishing nets into new products like our “Bracenet” bracelets. But where do we get all these fishing nets? And what’s the deal when we talk about “recovered ghost nets,” “discarded fishing nets,” or “former fishing nets”? Does a “North Sea Bracenet” really come from the North Sea? Can we trace the origin of all our nets?
